Description:
Camp Tamarack aims to provide an inclusive and barrier free outdoor camping experience
through accessible, fun-filled and innovative programs within a safe and positive environment
that nurtures personal and social development. We strive to provide people of all ages and
abilities a peer-supported outdoor experience in a safe and welcoming environment, to enhance
their quality of life and create positive opportunities while discovering one’s potential.
As an integral part of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the health and wellness of all our campers. No two days during our camp season is the same; from organizing and leading a camp activity dispersing and documenting medications!
We are looking to have our Nurse/Medic join our team early in June, no later than the 15th. You will stay with us till August 25th.
While you are looking after our many camp guests, we will be looking after you. We will provide you with accommodation and meals for your camp contract. This includes anytime you are training and staff orientations with us. You must be at least 18 years old to hold this position and will receive a weekly pay of $560. Additional support could be offered with successful completion of a valid class 4 license which we would consider an asset. An ideal candidate would be able to qualify for the Canada Summer Jobs Grant Programs.
What you bring to the Camp:
•Ideally completed at least 3 years of post-secondary education or equivalent in nursing, emergency medical technology or related field
•Have experience in working with individuals with additional needs
•Have valid Standard First Aid and CPR-C Certification, at a minimum or willing to obtain
•Clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Persons Search
•Clear Child Welfare Check
•Experience or certification in medication distribution
•Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
•Have a desire to work with children, youth and people of all abilities
•Be available to attend the entire week of Staff Orientation June 15 - June 22
•Be able to meet the physical and emotional needs and daily care needs of all campers
What we will ask of you:
• Plan, document and carry out any medical requirements of the campers and staff, as per Alberta Camping
Policies
• Assist in camper check in and check out, ensuring all medical information for each camper is complete and
accurate
• Responsible for ensuring that adequate first aid supplies are always stocked and maintained onsite
• Follow up with parents/guardians when required regarding medical conditions and limitations of campers
• Administer medications and treatments as required and authorized by parents/guardians and keep records of all
such treatments
• Ensuring that the health and safety policies of Camp Tamarack and the Alberta Camping Association are
followed
• Administering emergency first aid where required and document accordingly
• Be available 24 hours per day when camp is in session, in case of an emergency
• Briefing the appropriate staff on relative conditions and/or disabilities
• Join our Camp Leader(s) and take part in the camp activities, when available
