Bonjour Mes Amies!
Studying French at GPRC opens students up to a new world of opportunity to experience new cultures, pursue career opportunities and learn one of the world’s most popular international languages.
GPRC supports students to achieve their French language goals with its excellent faculty, course offerings and connections to French language opportunities.
Why Study French?
We asked 20 of our students why they wanted to study French and this is what they told us.
“I started taking French classes because I wanted to work for the Canadian government. I feel that it is my duty to speak both the official languages of Canada because I am Canadian. After just two French courses, I was able to go to France and speak only French, which is a great achievement. Knowing French has given me the opportunity to volunteer with the Canadian government, as well as make friends from all over the world right here in Grande Prairie. This year, I am moving to Montreal to further my studies and have more career opportunities.”
“French is a beautiful language to speak. To be bilingual is an asset to living and working in Canada. Every time I can understand a conversation even a little bit, I feel a great sense of pride.”
“The French programs offered at GPRC are entertaining, engaging, and challenging. They allow you to expand your worldview and personal talents as a part of your academic studies.”
“Studying French is excellent not only because you’re learning a second language, one of our country’s official languages, but it is also giving me a better understanding of French culture and customs because you can put it to everyday use, especially living in Canada. The French program at GPRC offers the best second language courses I have ever taken.”
“You should learn French to travel and be able to fully experience the culture of French speaking places.”
“Besides being one of our two national languages, French is spoken in so many other places, basically anywhere that was colonized by France. It’s great for furthering career opportunities which include lots of travel. Easy exposure to French through the GPRC French Club makes it easy to practice.”
“You should study French to broaden your aspect of the world, it is useful in many different career paths, and a second language is often required in many degrees.”
“The French classes at GPRC are amazing. Small class sizes and professors that are always there to help you. Having a second language gives up an edge in a competitive job market. French also opens the doors to many more opportunities.”
“At GPRC the instructors are one-of-a kind. The time and care they invest in students is both astounding and heartwarming. The courses are well structured and intriguing. All students are engaged, learning, and improving skills in reading, writing, and speaking French. French courses at GPRC are truly amazing.”
“Studying any new language opens the door to a whole new culture. Learning a new language is extremely beneficial, and knowing French in Canada opens many job and life opportunities that would not otherwise be available. Not to mention, the profs at GPRC who teach French are caring and beyond excellent when it comes to facilitating student success.”
“I study French to be able to communicate with friends and Family in Quebec. The French program at GPRC is awesome! The professors are great and provide lots of help to make the course enjoyable.”
“I believe studying French has shaped my life in a different way than it may have if I had been an English student. It has added personality and rounded my characters. Truly one of my most enjoyed classes. French is such a fun language to learn and a good stepping stone for anyone looking to broaden their horizons. It is never boring!”
“I think French is a beautiful language, and while difficult to learn, is worth the effort. I like Québec, and I think if we want to keep it as part of our country, and integrate it in more, then bilingualism is a necessary step for many towards uniting the Francophone and Anglophone communities.”
“In my opinion, studying French can offer many opportunities and open a lot of doors for someone’s future career. Having an experience with another language can be a great help in terms of helping others who aren’t necessarily English speakers.”
“I have been taking French classes at the college for two years now, and I believe it’s had wonderful and positive outcomes. Because of the instructors, I’ve discovered a passion for French, the language and culture. Not only does learning a second language – especially French- improve the health of your brain, but it gives you a purpose. I’ve only ever have good things to say about GPRC’s French program. I highly recommend it to everyone I meet.”
“French is wonderful. I had no interest in French at first, but after taking the beginner course at GPRC I fell in love. French is so useful to know, it opens your mind and lets you explore broaden horizons. Learning French is so fun and I recommend it to everyone.”
“Studying French will increase your chances for a government or teaching job. It will improve your cultural experience when travelling to French speaking areas. It broadens your point of view. It is enjoyable and rewarding.”
“Knowing more than one language opens up so many doors, it allows you to see the world from another perspective. As to French, it’s a beautiful language. It’s also one of our official languages so if in the future you wish to rise up high in politics, the romp, the army or any other nationwide organization being to communicate is the key.”
“French will open up more job opportunities if you plan on staying in Canada because it is a bilingual country. If you plan on leaving Canada, French will help you in quite a few countries as well. Plus let’s be honest, French is cool!”
“Studying French allows you to expand on future career and travel opportunities, French class also allows students to become part of a fun environment and develop new friendships.”
